Jacobs is forging ahead with our goal to build a vibrant new bridge and transportation structures practice in Virginia. As a Structural Bridge Engineer and vital member of our Virginia team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on transportation projects that focus on bridges and other transportation structure designs. You will serve in a technical role and/or task lead on bridge design projects and perform complex structural analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation (highway and rail) projects on local and national projects.

We’ll look for your knowledge and experience in: Analysis as well as the development of design, plan preparation, specifications, and reports. Inspection may be required on occasion. This role could be located in any of our Northern Virginia offices.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant previous experience in bridge design

  • BS or MS in civil/structural engineering

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in VA, or obtainable in 6 months

  • Previous experience working with VDOT, including familiarity with their Office Practice Manuals, Stage I reports, and Stage II requirements for submission.

  • Ability to produce design documentation/calculations

  • Working knowledge of CAD systems, specifically MicroStation to include experience with VDOT CADD Compliance Standards and use of MDLs.

  • A thorough understanding of and practical experience applying the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications to transportation structures.

Ideally you’ll also have:

  • Demonstrated experience on various types of bridges, including both concrete and structural steel bridge types

  • Experience in both new bridge design as well as maintenance and repair

  • Active involvement in local engineering societies.
