Atmospheric Dispersion Modeler
The Atmospheric DispersionModeler will work collaboratively with a team of research scientists togenerate new and analyze existing atmospheric dispersion data to develop newdispersion model algorithms and improve existing algorithms. The AtmosphericDispersion Modeler will integrate proposed changes into the FORTRAN code ofAERMOD. Additionally, the Atmospheric Dispersion Modeler will participate inthe design of wind tunnel studies of flow and dispersion and assist with tracergas concentration and laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) wind tunnel measurements.
The selected candidate will:
Analyze and interpret data from wind tunnelstudies and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling of atmosphericdispersion;
Develop formulations and associated modelalgorithms within AERMOD for simulating dispersion phenomena;
Integrate proposed changes into the FORTRAN codeof AERMOD;
Evaluate AERMOD changes against the wind tunneland CFD data bases;
Contribute to the design of wind tunnel flow anddispersion studies;
Provide support for wind tunnel experiments,including tracer gas concentration LDV measurements;
Write technical reports and journal articles;
Support the team’s leadership in providinginputs to project resource estimates, scheduling, cost estimates, and technicalreports, to include quality assurance reporting;
Develop and maintainaccurate and timely technical, quality assurance, and health and safetydocumentation;
Perform other duties as required.
Thesuccessful candidate will possess the following minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science orother Physical Science and four (4) years of work experience, OR Master’sdegree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science or other Physical Science and two (2)years of work experience;
Proficient in FORTRAN (required) and MatLab or R programminglanguages;
Experience in dispersion model development and application;
Understanding of the AERMOD code and structure;
Understanding of the atmospheric boundary layer;
Experience in laboratory studies of fluid dynamics;
Excellent written and oral communications skills;
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment,highly integrated work team;
Ability to work on-site Mondaythrough Fridays during normal business hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) at clientfacilities located at RTP, NC;
Ability to pass a background investigation and a drugtest.
