Jacobs Electrical Engineer in RTP, North Carolina
Jacobs is seeking an engineer to join ourDesign and Sampling team in support of our Research Laboratory Support (RLS)contract with the U.S. EPA National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL)– Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division (APPCD) located in ResearchTriangle Park, NC. The ideal candidate will have professional skills andspecialized academic training in a technical field that will be used for andwill lead to considerable amount of independent, self-managed work. The idealcandidate’s duties will also develop into the management of tasks and possiblyprojects.
Responsibilities may include:
Collaboration with environmentalscientists, planners, engineers, and other specialists, to address environmentalproblems.
Design of control systems includingbuilding circuit boards and Arduino based platforms.
Designing and troubleshootingArduino based control systems on a wide variety of projects.
Designing and modifying LabViewbased software platforms.
Operation of air qualityinstrumentation. Operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complexsampling equipment.
Originating and/or amend writtenstandard operating procedures, quality assurance plans, and work plans asrelated to air emissions research tasks.
Conduct field air sampling studiesin different parts of the US (0-15% travel possible).
Air Quality data handling anddata analysis.
Operating environmental testequipment and collecting data, such as gas emissions, flow rates andtemperatures.
Reviewing data to ensurecompliance with project data quality goals and to identify areas forimprovement in the quality system.
Maintaining hard-copy andelectronic records of measurement results and reports in accordance with JacobsTechnology and EPA records management protocols.
Performing all laboratory work inaccordance with established Jacobs and EPA safety and quality assuranceprotocols.
This person will be continuallylearning and developing new skill sets as the research objectives change.
Excellent verbal communicationskills in working with peers and client are required.
Ability to work independently, aswell as with a team is required.
Yearsof experience: 1-5
Education:Minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineeringfrom an accredited institution
Skillsrequired: The ideal candidate will –
Design, fabricate, and develop software for sensor based systems with local logging capabilities, custom user interfaces and real-time transmission of data over cell networks Develop engineering and software controls for instrumentation to support various EPA projects.
Design and populate printed circuit boards (PCB) for integrated instrument control systems using CAD or schematic capture software such as OrCAD.
Have fluency in using software packages such as LabView and R. Ideally, LabView skills will include the creation of executables files.
Have strong written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally the results of research experiments to Jacobs Technology and EPA personnel.
Have strong computer skills using Microsoft Office.
Have the ability to travel and perform field studies at remote sites within the US.

Education:B.S or M.S. degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering from anaccredited institution

Experience with Maker and Arduino environments. Knowledgeof air quality measurements preferred. Experience operating instrumentation or continuousemission monitors; experience with electronic (emission or diagnostic)analyzers.
