The selected candidate must be pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering with an interest in Geotechnical Engineering. The selected candidate will assist engineers with a variety of tasks on civil engineering projects including geotechnical analysis and design and geotechnical construction support for infrastructure projects. This position will primarily support senior level Geotechnical Engineers to complete planning/study documents, preliminary design, detailed design, permitting documents, engineering reports and construction management.

Each day, you will be an important team member as you collaborate in multi-discipline team environment in the evaluation, design, coordination, and execution of projects for our clients. The candidate should be a self-motivated engineering student with a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each project in our diverse and fast-paced office. Candidate skills should include good oral and written communications, strong data analysis and technical problem solving, strong organizational skills, excellent computer skills and team-oriented work practices.

Our Civil/Geotechnical and Construction Management Engineering Interns:

  • Work under the supervision of senior level Geotechnical Engineers

  • Participate in various types of administrative, engineering, science or technology projects and support utilizing basic principles and concepts

  • Perform a variety of routine assignments which are clearly defined and require the application of standard geotechnical design engineering and construction techniques, procedures and criteria.

  • Support conceptual and detailed designs for Multi-Discipline projects for civil/structural/transportation/water/wastewater infrastructure

  • Learn the design and consulting side of engineering

  • Participate in face to face mentoring sessions

  • Interact/Coordinate with other disciplines such as architects, mechanical, structural, drainage, electrical and process engineering

  • Assist in the preparation of plans and specifications, engineering reports, engineer’s cost estimates, quantity take-offs

  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents and reports

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations and plans using MathCAD, Excel, AutoCAD, Microstation and other engineering software

  • Perform the routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of geotechnical engineering and construction principles

  • In pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering with an interest in Geotechnical Engineering, from ABET accredited civil engineering program

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

  • Working hybrid with a bulk majority of time likely spent on a live construction site

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • 3.0 GPA

  • A previous internship, teaching assistance, or research related to civil engineering.

  • Familiarity with geotechnical design software

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management within Jacobs.

  • Self-driven time management and organizational skills

  • Have or are working towards an engineer-in-training (EIT) certification.
