ITER is a unique, first of a kind project that aims to demonstrate the technical and scientific feasibility of fusion energy. Jacobs one of three partners making up the Consortium MOMENTUM (construction management-as-agent contractor) is project managing the construction and assembly of more than one million components in world’s largest fusion reactor. As construction management-as-agent contractor, MOMENTUM is managing the construction and assembly of the first full-scale test reactor to include balance of plant and the Tokomak itself. Jacobs is recruiting for a Construction Area Manager with more than 15 years of experience to work on the ITER Project near Aix-en-Provence, France.
He/She will be responsible for:
Takes direction from and interacts directly with the CMA Construction Director
Ensures that the site construction team prioritise safety and embeds a safety culture within the Construction team
Within multiple plant areas or buildings the construction area manager will project manage all construction contractor activities
Manage contractors scope of work through to Mechanical completion through management of completions and quality activities
Manage cross site support services including scaffolding, lifting and handling
Liaises with the Project Controls group to ensure project accurate reporting
Liaises with the Contracts management group to ensure contractors are respecting KPIs
Liases with the CMA supply chain manager to ensure that contractor material ROS dates are agreed and incorporated into the SPMat database
Identifies and manages site risk through mitigation strategies
Ensures the construction team are producing daily and weekly construction project management reports to cover all of the site activities
Contributes to the development of completions/QC planning and execution
Focus on delivery, value for money and value creation activities
Takes the DOA of the Construction Area Manager for nuclear buildings during absences
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Specific skills
The Construction Area Manager is a key role. Essential skills include:
15 years (Senior) of major international (multi-$bn) EPC/EPC(m) experience in construction manager roles
5 years’ experience in the nuclear industry – desirable
Experience of mentoring local staff to take construction management positions
Leading and embedding a safety culture within the team
Must have construction project management skills
Fluent in English, with additional French preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with creative solution and problem solving skills

Ability to take direction from senior management
Ability to provide expert advice to a variety of stakeholders
Ability to responsibly manage change in a pressurised environment
