We have the need for a Senior Construction Quality Inspector- Structural (SCQI) to join our team at NRF in Scoville, ID, near Idaho Falls, ID. The successful candidate will perform quality oversight of construction activities including structural steel fabrication, erection, preassembly, and paint while evaluating the construction subcontractor's methods, workmanship, quality, and conformance with contract and construction specifications, Codes, Standards, and Regulatory requirements. The candidate will oversee and evaluate the subcontractors' implementation of their approved NQA-1 Quality Program as well as ensure procedural compliance with ASME NQA-1 requirements. Candidates will oversee the receipt, inspection, and testing activities of construction material, fabrication, preassembly, and final installation of structural steel items as well as generate oversight reports in accordance with company’ procedures and updating project files. The candidate will be responsible for the review and approval of specification-required submittals including inspection reports, testing and inspection plans, turnover packages, and work packages as well as verification of subcontractor satisfaction of submittal requirements. This position directly interfaces with multiple departments, craftsmen, quality personnel, and project management both internally with company employees as well as with the subcontractors’ providing items and services. Employees at this level typically work independently on assignments but are expected to provide guidance for mid-level employees, create and upload daily reports, and regularly communicate project updates with the Lead Construction Quality Inspector and the Project Quality Assurance Manager.

Position Description and Duties:

  • Review plans, specifications, codes, shop drawings, subcontractor submittals, quality and technical procedures, reports, and status reports

  • Perform Oversight activities ensuring contractual requirements are met and maintained for field work which includes ASME NQA-1 requirements for structural steel erection

  • Interface with engineers on design criteria, review design for compliance with contract requirements, and identify subcontractor violations while recommending corrective or preventative actions to operations

  • Recommend changes to construction plans to meet field conditions and specification requirements

  • Perform surveillance of activities, operations or processes as needed

Here’s what you’ll need :

Qualifications - External

  • 8 or more years of construction experience with 5 or more years being in the Nuclear Industry

  • Thorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials, and equipment

  • Thorough knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings

  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and drawings and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subcontractors and associates

  • Ability to effect satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards

  • Ability to maintain accurate records

  • Effective computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Ability to interface with multiple departments, disciplines, and companies to ensure project compliance

  • USA citizenship is required for this role. No Dual citizens or foreign nationals can be considered for this role

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required, a college education is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to walk across long distances over potential rough terrain.

  • The ability to climb stairs and ladders to inspect work is also required.

  • Exposure to weather elements while in the field is expected.

Project Information

The work location for this position is approximately 55 miles from Idaho Falls.

Essential Functions:

Work Environment:

  • Office environment. (95%)

  • May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities

Physical Requirements:

  • Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions

  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist, and sit for extended periods (100%) as well as climb, crawl, and lift to 35 lbs (25%)

Equipment and Machines:

  • Standard office equipment - PC, telephone, fax, copier, related equipment (90%)

Attendance:

  • Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

  • Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%)

  • Travel required (<10%)
