Jacobs Nuclear Projects and Consulting is a Tier 1 service provider to the U.S. Department of Energy, we deliver safe and innovative solutions at complex nuclear cleanup and production sites. Our services include program management, decommissioning, environmental remediation, waste and nuclear material management, nuclear operations, consulting, and engineering, and construction.

We are looking to add a Structural Engineer to our growing engineering team out at the Spent Fuel Handling Project in Scoville, ID. As a Structural Engineer, you will oversee contractor's daily work activity for concrete, steel, and foundations on site for the Department of Energy project. Additionally, perform structural design calculations and evaluations as needed for the project. This position is client facing with an emphasis on ensuring quality, schedule, and cost. You will participate in planning, field oversight, inspections, scheduling, general design, design change disposition and procurement tasks as assigned.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering

  • 4 or more years of relevant engineering experience

  • Professional Engineering registration in Idaho or ability to obtain within 6 months via reciprocity

  • Field Engineering or Resident Engineering experience with steel, concrete, and foundations

  • Ability to work daily at the Idaho National Lab

  • Thorough knowledge of engineering and construction practices, and the ability to read and interpret plans and specifications and technical submittals for compliance

  • Working knowledge of computer software systems for processing submittals, includes Microsoft Office suite and databases

  • Ability to maintain continuous communication with the Contract Manager, Project Controls Manager, Senior Engineer(s), and Client personnel.

  • Must be able to walk long distances over potential rough terrain in all types of typical weather conditions. Exposure to weather elements while in the field is expected.

  • The ability to climb stairs and ladders to inspect work

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • USA citizenship is required, no dual citizenship (to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • Nuclear project experience

  • NQA-1 experience

  • Subcontract Technical Representative experience

  • Cost and Schedule experience

  • OSHA 10 Hour Construction Training

  • Structural analysis and design

  • Experience with Industrial or DOE projects.

  • Resides a commutable distance from the INL

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
