Jacobs Senior Mechanical Engineer for Airborne Systems in Severn, Maryland

This is senior technical role for an engineer that would focus on airborne products from the innovative Aerospace Division of Jacobs. The role is on the mechanical and aerospace engineering team which researches, designs, develops, analyzes, and tests a variety of mechanical/aeronautical systems for the military aerospace industry. The successful candidate would focus on mechanical design, airborne sensor integration, structural analysis oversight, packaging considerations, dynamic analysis oversight, mentoring of engineers, and flight testing with consultation from other engineering disciplines.
Responsibilities :
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering group is a high performing team with a breadth of experience in mechanical design, electronics manufacturing, electronics packaging, airworthiness, testing, structural, and thermal analysis. The level Senior Mechanical Engineer V will perform the following:
Oversight and direction of design and analysis of mechanical, structural, and electrical components and assemblies for airborne systems.
Drive design refinement, implementation, and validation of product.
Select materials, structures, hardware suitable for application in the payload.
Develop and conduct testing to validate engineering analysis models. Write test reports.
Convert vehicle operation envelop definition and customer requests into payload and component requirements.
Create multiple concept solutions to those requirements and execute the chosen path.
3D CAD (SolidWorks) design and drafting of mechanical/electrical components and assemblies.
Performing vendor research, selection, and interface with vendor at technical level as needed.
Provide technical oversight and guidance for mechanical elements of airborne projects.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
ABILITY TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A SECRET SECURITY CLEARANCE
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (Master’s degree preferable) or similar degree with 12+ years of experience with flight hardware. 6+ years in the Aerospace industry
Experience in design, qualification, and integration of electronics systems for airborne applications
Ability to work across mechanical, aeronautical, electrical, and materials engineering disciplines
Structural analysis experience
Experience with Solidworks or Catia
Ability to compile and evaluate test and production data, prepare technical analysis, recommend manufacturing methods and processes required to meet design objectives on new or improved products and/or processes.
Ability to solve engineering design problems related to materials, design, and equipment
Effective time management and prioritization skills
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Basic skills in Microsoft Office software products
Strong problem-solving skills
Provide technical Subject Matter Expertise to mentor junior and mid-level engineers,
Effectively communicate with team and customers from engineer to executive level.
Good interpersonal skills including a passionate and can-do attitude.
On-site support 2-3 days per week in Severn, MD
Preferred :
15+ years of mechanical experience in an aerospace environment support full product life cycle.
Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
Current Secret or higher clearance.
FAA, DER, DAR certification or other Airworthiness Expertise.
Familiarity with Government contracts and requirements.
Structural analysis experience using Nastran or ANSYS.
DFMECA, 6 Sigma certification, Design For Manufacturability.
CAD experience in SOLIDWORKS and Solidworks PDM.
Experience with composite material design, analysis, and composite fabrication methods.
Design and Qualification of Airborne stores.
Special Type Certification experience.
Experience with MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-8591, MIL-STD-8856, MIL-STD-1763.
Clearance : Must be able obtain and maintain a security clearance (minimum Secret). Clearance processing will be completed by the U.S. Government. Factors considered for a U.S. Government Security Clearance include but are not limited:
