Jacobs SMT Senior Technician in Severn, Maryland

Delivering mission critical solutions across the Defense and Intelligence Communities with world class cyber and intelligence professionals and secure technologies. This is a challenging and rewarding position with a mission to support the manufacturing, rework, & repair of Circuit Card Assemblies in our Rapid Solutions Manufacturing Group of Jacobs. This opportunity involves working as part of the Surface Mount Assembly laboratory team working with prototypes, legacy assemblies, and full production builds for internal & external customers.

  • SMT Manufacturing Lab environment will require a lab coat and additional personal protective equipment in support of the lab’s cleanliness & safety requirements.

  • The work environment can be fast-paced and may involve deadline pressures.

  • The noise level in the laboratory can be considered moderate but sustained for long periods of time.

  • Safety protocols in place shall be adhered to.

  • Equipment to be used: X-Ray Inspection, BGA Rework Station, JBC Soldering & Rework Equipment, Batch Cleaning, Ionic Cleanliness Tester, Bake out & Curing Ovens, tabletop milling machine, PCB router, Laser Etch, Microscopes, & other hand tools.

  • Times and days may vary depending on business requirements.

  • Specific vision abilities as a requirement of the job will include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focal adjustment

  • Teamwork and cooperation with co-workers is crucial.

  • Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.

  • Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday from 7am – 3:30pm.

  • Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Ability to understand and interpret assembly drawings, bills of material, assembly schematics, shop travelers, & work instructions.

  • Awareness of document revision control.

  • Basic understanding of electronic & mechanical components.

  • Ability to extract required information from manufacturers data sheets (mechanical dimensions, tape & reel information, safe handling requirements, etc.).

  • Basic understanding of printed circuit boards (PCB’s) Plating of solderable pads, solder mask, silkscreen legends.

  • Ability to spot anomalies and to effectively communicate information to engineering staff.

  • Review & verify material kits in accordance with work orders, shop travelers, and/or work instructions.

  • Accurately Load / Unload Pick & Place feeders in accordance with work orders, shop travelers, and/or work instructions.

  • Ability to be trained to safely operate the following equipment: Solder Paste Printer, Solder Paste Inspection, Pick & Place, Reflow Oven, Automated Optical Inspection, Batch Cleaner, BGA Rework, X-Ray Inspection.

  • Basic troubleshooting of listed equipment when problems arise during production and the confidence to make appropriate machine corrections if needed.

  • Daily maintenance of listed equipment. •In-process inspection of own work and work of others.

  • Certification to IPC-A-610 preferred but will train the right candidate.

  • Some hand assembly required prior to reflow of assemblies. A steady hand and use of microscope is required.

  • Effectively manage several complex tasks concurrently with limited supervision.

  • Willingness to participate in advanced training for all aspects of circuit card assembly, Machine Programming, Machine Maintenance, Hand Assembly & Soldering, Circuit Card Rework & Repair.
