General Maintenance Worker
Summary/General Description of Job:
The General Maintenance Worker repairs building structuresand mechanical, electrical and sanitary systems. The incumbent also performs generalmaintenance on machinery.
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
Performsgeneral maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical,or sanitary systems.
May also perform general maintenance and repairof the establishment's machinery.
Maintains basic practical knowledge of severalmaintenance trades in order to perform most of the duties.
Keeps in good repair building woodwork, wall, floorand other surface treatments.
Replaces electrical switches, fixtures, andmotors.
May painting or touching up of structure orequipment.
Repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures, householdappliances and equipment; and replacing broken window panes.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
May perform work in other classifications whenincidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another jobclassification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustmentsapplicable.
Theproper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance field.
Completingall mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
Timelyand cost-effective performance of duties.
Timelycompletion and accuracy of all departmental work.
Dealingwith a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversifiedsituations.
Adherenceto established company safety policies and good industrial and office safetypractices.
Compliance with company Standard OperatingProcedures and Personnel policies and procedures.
Having the ability to work well underpressure.
Four years’ experience maintaining in a state ofgood repair buildings, and associated equipment of housing units, officebuildings, recreational buildings, or institutional buildings.
Must be able to interpret blueprints, drawings,etc.
Must be familiar with a wide variety of testequipment.
Must be familiar with repair and modification ofplumbing, electrical, sewage, heating, air conditioning systems, and householdappliances.
Must obtain and maintain required explosivescertifications when assigned to ordnance operations.
Must haveand maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of theclassifications.
Must possess a valid State driver's license withacceptable driving record.
Must meet and maintain company physical andsecurity requirements, including respirator qualification, and clearanceeligibility when required.
Must possessgood communication skills for a service team environment.
May berequired to pass a “backflow preventer” certification when required by theassignment.
Must be ableto lift 50 pounds.
Abilityto successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on thecontract.
Candidates for positions atthe Naval Hospital facility must prove immunity to tetanus, measles, Rubella(a.k.a. German Measles or Three-Day Measles) and mumps by providing, prior toemployment, physician‑signed documentation of either immunization (vaccine) orantibody titer (blood test), and evidence of a TB (tuberculosis) test withinthe past year.
