Summary/General Description Of Job:

The Rigger sets up or repairs rigging for construction projects, ship yards or other sites. The incumbent maintains records on certified materials and equipment.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

§ Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material.

§ Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.

§ Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.

§ Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook.

§ Gives directions to Bridge‑or‑Gantry‑Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to insure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, or radio.

§ Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.

§ Splices synthetic or natural fiber rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle.

§ Pours sockets with resin or zinc.

§ May direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment into ships.

§ Maintains records on certified materials and equipment.

§ Tests and certifies rigging gear and equipment in accordance with applicable regulations.

§ May erect scaffolding.

§ Performs other related duties as assigned.

May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.

§ Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.

§ Timely and cost effective performance of duties.

§ Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.

§ Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.

§ Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.

§ Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.

§ Having the ability to work well under pressure.

Here’s what you’ll need :

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations): Mandatory

§ Four years experience as a rigger.

§ Knowledge of strengths and uses of a variety of cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves.

§ Ability to perform physically demanding work, including some under adverse weather conditions.

§ Must have and maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of the classifications.

§ Must obtain and maintain required explosives certifications when assigned to ordnance operations.

§ Must have experience in soldering of cable ends and slings.

§ Forklift experience desirable.

§ Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Class B driver's license within 6 months and may be required to secure and maintain a Class A Washington State driver’s license. Must have acceptable driving record.

§ Must meet and maintain company physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification, and clearance eligibility when required.

§ Must be able to lift 50lbs.

§ Must be able to be licensed, following training, in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements.

§ Must possess good communication skills for a service team environment.

§ Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.

§ U.S. Citizenship.

Wages - $36.01/hr (Union position)
