Steam Maintenance Mechanic


Summary/General Description Of Job:

The Steam Maintenance Mechanic diagnoses needed repairs formachinery associated with boilers, boiler controls, steam system controls andpiping. Incumbent will also replacesbroken and defective parts and reassembles the system.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • Repairsmachinery or mechanical equipment associated with boilers, boiler controls,steam system controls and piping.

  • Examines machines and mechanical equipment todiagnose source of trouble.

  • Dismantles or partly dismantles steam and boilersystems and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools.

  • Replaces broken or defective parts with itemsobtained from stock or commercial vendors.

  • Orders the production of a replacement part by amachine shop or sending the parts to a machine shop for major repairs.

  • Prepares written specifications for major repairsor for production of parts.

  • Reassembles steam and boiler systems and makingall necessary adjustments for operation, including working with natural gas andoil fueled units.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

May perform work in other classifications whenincidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another jobclassification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustmentsapplicable.

  • Theproper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the steam maintenance mechanicfield.

  • Completingall mandated training requirements per government and management directives.

  • Timelyand cost effective performance of duties.

  • Timelycompletion and accuracy of all departmental work.

  • Dealingwith a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversifiedsituations.

  • Adherenceto established company safety policies and good industrial and office safetypractices.

  • Compliance with company Standard OperatingProcedures and Personnel policies and procedures.

  • Having the ability to work well underpressure.


Job Requirements (Education, Experience, ProfessionalAssociations):
  • May be required to obtain and maintain asbestoscertification for the purpose of maintenance and repair to items containing asbestos.

  • The work may involve accomplishment of minorelectrical connections or diagnosis of electric boilers or controls, motors andvalves.

  • Four yearsexperience in boiler and steam system mechanical and machine equipment repair.

  • Must possessand maintain a Grade 2 Seattle Steam Engineer License or equivalent.

  • Knowledge ofuse of specialized tools to perform the necessary repair functions.

  • Ability andexperience in pipefitting is required.

  • Ability totroubleshoot equipment.

  • Must haveand maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of theclassifications.

  • Must obtainand maintain required explosives certifications when assigned to ordnanceoperations.

  • Must possessvalid Washington State driver's license with acceptable driving record.

  • Must meetand maintain company physical and security requirements, including respiratorqualification, and clearance eligibility when required.

  • Must bewilling and able to work at heights in manlifts up to 40 feet.

  • Must be ableto lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must possessgood communication skills for a service team environment.

  • Abilityto successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on thecontract.

  • U.S.Citizenship.
