About the opportunity

Our Project Services section is a diverse team that provides Project Management, Commercial Management, Scheduling, Contract Management, Contract Dispute and Risk Management activities across our client portfolio. We are part of the Project Services and Cost Management Operations Centre working on a wide range of Defence, Education, Healthcare, Rail, Highways, Utilities, Transport, Urban development and Aviation projects. We are an industry leading organisation who provide valued solutions to our delivery partners / clients across our varied project portfolio.

The Jacobs Northern region is experiencing a period of growth and we are looking to appoint an Assistant Project Manager to join our Project Services team based in the South Brisbane office. The key purpose of this role is to assist the Project Manager with running medium to large projects and on smaller projects run the project yourself with the necessary support and coaching from a Project Manager or the Project Director. There is a heavy focus on project controls so an ability and interest in managing systems and processes is essential.

This role typically involves working on two types of projects:

  • The management of Jacobs internal projects including buildings / multidiscipline engineering teams

  • Working with an external client managing their contractors, consultants and other key stakeholders

The role is primarily project focused and will include the following responsibilities:

  • Preparation and maintenance of project plans

  • Set up and maintenance of required registers

  • Set up of project calendars

  • Set up and maintenance of the project controls / monitoring tools

  • Timely provision of project reports

  • Attending project meetings and preparing minutes

  • Managing change/variations, risks/opportunities, project organisational structure

  • Assist with the financial and commercial performance of the project.

About you

You’ll have demonstrable experience managing small engineering projects, utilising project delivery tools. You’ll have an understanding of corporate systems, quality management systems and knowledge of HSE regulations and construction standards with a strong safety focus.

Key requirements for the role:

  • Experience with Excel is essential

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A demonstratable understanding of standard project control practices would be considered favourably including;

  • Exposure to project control tools such as Ecosys, PRISM, Primavera, Microsoft Project

  • Development and maintenance of project work breakdown structure and cost breakdown structures for specific scopes

  • Cost Management, including forecasting, cost time phasing, trending and change control, committed costs

  • Risk & opportunity identification

  • Project scheduling

  • Cost and schedule analysis and monthly reporting
