Jacobs is the lead contractor providing EPCMservices for the Oyu Tolgoi Underground Project. This contract is worth $2.8bof surface and infrastructure works and will see us leading the way for over 5years to deliver this project successfully and safely. We are seeking toappoint a qualified Senior Buyer to join our profile and high functioning team.

This contract roleis considered a priority to our business and we are seeking strong applicantswho have a focus on quality and delivery coupled with a flexible attitude tomeet the varying needs of our global project. Jacobs is interested incandidates with solid procurement / purchasing experience (electrical andmechanical equipment) on a global EPCM project.

About the opportunity

You will be supporting all aspects ofthe procurement cycle and related logistics. You’ll support the purchasingrecords for the project, including procuring materials, supplies, parts andequipment which have been approved for purchase to ensure compliance with cost,quality and delivery requirements for the lifespan of the project.

This is a contract position for approximately6 months requiring significant experience at a Senior Buyer / ProcurementSpecialist level within the contracting environment. This role is located at our Brisbane CBD OT project office.

About you

You will be expected to work in aself-directed manner. Being systems savvy is ideal as you will need to learnour in-house Jacobs Material Management System to issue purchase orders.

Additional role requirements include:

  • Extensive Senior Buyer level experience

  • Investigate supply sources, visit and inspect suppliers’ premises andoperations, and make specific project reports and recommendations as required.

  • Implement the organisation’s purchasing policies, procedures andcontractual arrangements to ensure the procurement function is carried out withmaximum efficiency.

  • Call tenders and negotiate supply contracts.

  • Place orders according to specifications and within policy andguidelines.

  • Draw up purchasing contracts and submit these for authorisation.

  • Liaison withengineering and focal point for all technical clarification

  • Work closely with management and operations staff to provide up to dateinformation about materials and systems selection, thus contributingeffectively to cost minimisation.

  • Ensure effective purchasing records are maintained and that itemsordered are followed-up to ensure delivery by the required date.

  • Maintain knowledge of operation planning schedules to co-ordinate withpurchasing activities.
