We are looking for a driven and curious client-focused Project Architect to grow with our team.

As an Project Architect on our team in St. Louis, MO, you’ll be responsible for managing projects for interior environments that enhance organizational performance and achieve the client’s business objectives utilizing best practices. A large focus of your work will span several types of Lab and Laboratory design build projects. This is a unique opportunity to work with clients from private venture capitalist, Universities and Pharmacology from around the world. You’ll report directly to the Architecture Discipline Director and work with the Senior Principal Lab Planner on research, program, plan, assist with the laboratory planning and programming of various-sized pharmaceutical, academic research, biotech, energy or other emerging technology facilities. The individual will provide design and technical planning experience and leadership for laboratory facilities in areas of programming and design; fit-out planning, equipment planning, Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing(MEP) systems integration, casework specifications and construction administration.

Our goal is to develop innovative interior architectural design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe, and conducive to intended purpose and function, reflect client goals and are within project budget and schedule. 

Your Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide overall programming, master planning and lab design planning.

  • Coordinate and integrate other discipline elements and systems into unified designs.

  • Communicate with client/user groups to understand project requirements; prepare client presentations, illustrative design studies and reports.

  • Prepare drawing and specification documentation for schematic through detailed design phases of laboratory design projects. May work on early project phases including master planning, and conceptual development.

  • Coordinate with in-house disciplines and consultants for a comprehensive integrated laboratory project delivery.

  • Prepare quantitative data to support cost estimates.

  • Review submittals, addresses contractor requests for information and conducts periodic on-site visits to monitor contractor’s compliance with detailed design documents during project construction phase.

  • Periodic travel to project sites

To be most successful here are some of the skills you should have

  • Relevant experience in laboratory programming, planning and design for pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies, academic biomedical research, governmental or independent research institutions

  • Laboratory design experience working directly with clients’ senior management representatives, scientists, laboratory managers and technicians, facilities managers, project managers and other stakeholders in determining, developing and documenting programmatic requirements.

  • Able to effectively balance multiple priorities; coordinate work with engineering disciplines and specialty consultants, working independently as well as collaboratively.

  • Able to write scope descriptions and estimate hours to design and document design services related to this discipline.

  • Highly responsible and motivated to achieve total project success; promotes project and Jacobs goals of client service, design excellence, innovation and sustainability.

  • Experience supervising the work of other design professionals.

  • Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD as well as word processing and spreadsheet software applications.

  • Strong organizational, communications (both verbal and written) skills.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in laboratory design process, construction documentation, construction administration, materials and methods of construction, model building codes and accessibility guidelines

  • Participation in professional organizations

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree Architecture

  • Applicable professional experience, demonstrated by working in a similar role and as described above.

  • Be able to travel to most projects sites.

Ideally, You’ll also have:

  • Master’s of Architecture

  • LEED AP Preferred but if not obtained a credential will be required within 6 months of employment.

  • Participation in professional organizations
