We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer within our Petrochemical projects’ team. The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, specification, selection and services relating to electrical scopes of work for the electrical elements of Petrochemical projects. The initial role will be Lead Electrical Engineer working from the Home Office in Cheadle but may require site visits and secondments to other locations for future projects.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Participating in estimating and planning the execution of Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and/or Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contracts

  • Leading electrical teams of engineers and designers at every stage of the scope of work including management of; discipline project budgets, schedule, quality of outputs as well as checking and approvals

  • Production of data sheets, specifications and requisitions for equipment.

  • Developing discipline programme for resources and delivery

  • Technical knowledge to allow detailed discussions with Client engineers.

  • Development of methodologies and strategies for project delivery

  • Establishment of lists of deliverables for estimating purposes and preparing work-hour estimates

  • Preparing and delivering Technical presentations as appropriate in both formal and informal settings to colleagues, clients and third parties

  • Thinking both creatively and logically to resolve design and development problems

  • Identification of risks in the workplace, site and design work being undertaken

  • Consideration to the safety, environmental, commercial, and operational aspect of project design

  • Managing change and identifying, formalising and notifying relevant parties of changes in the project

  • Communicating, liaising and building relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, vendors and clients

  • Reporting to the Electrical, Controls and Instrument Group Manager and Project Managers as required

  • Supporting and liaison with Jacobs India offices on workshare tasks and development of workshare activities

  • Develop and maintaining excellent relationships with other discipline leads on projects

  • Completing scopes of work within agreed time frames

  • Liaising with client project engineers and other design team members

Project work will include:

  • Engineering support to the schedule, including planning interactions.

  • Work-hour tracking and measurement of progress.

  • Site surveys and use of Safe Plans of Action for surveys across sites.

  • Reviewing designs for compliance both formally and informally.

  • Approval of key documents as defined in company standards and Project Quality plan.

  • Effective communications with Jacobs Indian offices, other discipline leads, Project Managers and client

  • Undertake Role of discipline design lead on nominated projects

  • Compiling Installation scopes of work and project reports

  • Answering technical queries from installation contractor and Client.

  • Fault level, protection coordination, and discrimination studies & calculations.

  • Power system studies, design and specification.

  • Earthing studies, design and specification.

  • FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.

Assisting the Electrical, Controls and Instrument Group Manager in:

  • Developing procedures, standards, specifications and the required design tools for electrical scopes of work

  • Interviewing new hires, mentoring and developing staff in the department.

  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of international codes and standards and European Directives relevant to electrical equipment.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven experience in working within the Electrical discipline of an organisation.

  • Minimum: B Eng (Hons) Electrical Engineering

  • Minimum: Associate / Member IET

  • Experience of identifying appropriate equipment in particular in relation to design, specification, selection through to the tender bid evaluation process and in ensuring what was specified is ultimately delivered as a fully functional package by the selected suppliers

  • Excellent knowledge / relations with suppliers, manufacturers

  • Working experience with projects controls in particular scheduling, work-hour control, productivity and status reporting

  • Experience of project execution

  • Excellent understanding of both electrical and site safety requirements

  • Experience of design activities including design safety, constructability and staged design review process

  • To be able to work to Company standard operating procedures but to be innovative when appropriate

  • Use of software packages including Amtech and ETAP

  • Proven Track record in the field of electrical substation design would be advantageous.

  • Preferred experience in fast track projects where Design and Construction phases have a significant overlap

  • Proven track record in successful delivery of brownfield modifications on live process plants

  • Proven track record working with Hazardous Area Classifications and ATEX / DSEAR Legislation

  • Experience in specification of industrial user grid power connections would also be of benefit

  • HV/LV (11kV/3.3kV/400V) switchgear, transformer and distribution equipment,

  • Substation Design

  • UPS & Battery Systems

  • Variable Speed Drives

  • Trace Heating and Lighting

  • Cable Sizing, Calculation and routing information in line with regulatory and industry standards

  • M Eng (Hons) Electrical Engineering

  • Preferred: Chartered Engineer – IET

Travel Requirements:

Projects are both UK based and international and therefore when necessary travel to appropriate Client offices and Sites will be undertaken to support the activity. Jacobs Engineering is a large international organisation and therefore travel to other Jacobs’s offices may also be appropriate.
