We’re looking for an Environmental Scientist to work with our Water Resources teams in the Tampa Bay Region, throughout the State of Florida, and beyond. You’ll work alongside other Environmental Scientists and Engineers on a wide range of projects for key municipal and private sector clients, including NGO’s in Florida and beyond.

Based in Tampa, Florida, you’ll work with other scientists, engineers, subject matter experts, and project managers on exciting projects in which you will learn from others and pass along your knowledge.

Responsibilities may include:

• Managing and delivering a wide range of projects and tasks including data analysis and interpretation, technical report writing, and participating in meetings with clients and regulators.

• Support stream restoration, wetlands treatment, biogeochemistry, water quality, and living shoreline projects and water quality monitoring

• Serving as technical lead for project deliverables including environmental data, reports, and permitting.

• Support senior staff in the local and regional water group.  

• Strengthen Jacobs relationships with Tampa-Bay Region municipalities and facilitate collaboration with local, state, and federal environmental agencies.

Your work could include stream assessments, plant surveys, wetland delineations, habitat characterization, data management and statistical analysis, or protocol wildlife species surveys as appropriate to your background and interests. As a mid-level scientist, you’ll lead and participate in biological surveys, stream assessments, environmental permitting, and related efforts to support project development and be responsible for meeting client objectives and project-specific internal financial goals. Water quality and sediment sampling experience, wetlands treatment, TMDLs, aquatic ecology, including living shoreline designs would all be subject areas to engage in to develop solutions for our clients. Your analytical writing and presentation skills will be called upon as you lead development of quality client deliverables. Your task leadership opportunities will include development of permit strategies and impact avoidance and minimization, permit applications, client communication, technical memos, biological survey reports, and environmental compliance documents.

This is a Hybrid position where you’ll be afforded the flexibility to work from both the office as well as from home to meet project delivery goals while maintaining balance.

Qualifications - External

• Advanced degree or doctorate in Natural Sciences or Environmental Science/ from an accredited college or university or other closely related degree.

• 2 to 5 years of professional experience delivering ecosystem ecology, environmental science, stream restoration or wetlands projects.

• Attributes that include good oral and written communications, self-motivation, team-oriented work practices, strong data analysis and technical problem solving, and a strong organizational approach.

• Experience leading teams toward a common goal.

• Proven track record working with stakeholders and scientific community

• Proficiency in Esri ArcGIS Pro

Ideally, you’ll also have:

• Experience with wetland/surface waters delineation and permitting, urban stream restoration, habitat assessment and ecological surveys, field data collection including familiarity with electronic data collection and mapping software such as ArcGIS Survey 123, Field Maps, and ArcGIS Pro and water quality instrumentation

• Professional Certification or pathway started for certification such as Certified Wildlife Biologist, Certified Environmental Professional, or Professional Wetland Scientist certification is preferred

• Familiarity with state environmental regulations and established relationships and coordination experience with state and federal fish and wildlife agencies in the Southeastern regions of the U.S.

• Interest in working abroad occasionally as work needs arise
