The primary role of the Quality Engineer shall be to support the JFS Quality Manager to ensure the quality standards and processes are carried out in line with the requirements of ISO 9001:2105 and the additional Client Quality control requirements. Providing competent advice and guidance to achieve a fully competent work force, suitably SQEP, competent in quality management tasks and system compliance.

They will be required to offer expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive quality assurance culture. This represents a key role in helping control management risk working in partnership with Employers, Employees, Directors, and Safety Representatives etc. ensuring Quality Performance targets and goals are achieved.

The role will be to support the ATENI business at both nuclear and non-nuclear sites, primarily at AWE A and B sites, Rolls Royce Derby and BAE Barrow.

Key Accountabilities

  • Working closely with the Quality Manager to:-

  • To ensure appropriate project quality system controls are in place.

  • To oversee or generate Quality documentation, Quality plans, Inspection and test plans, etc.

  • Verifying through monitoring, surveillance, audit and review the effectiveness and implementation of the quality managements system.

  • Contribute to procurement management activities, by evaluating and auditing suppliers to both 9001 and the AWE are RR Quality control requirements, including ITT process and review and approval of contractor PQPs

  • Plan and ensure closure of Project improvement activities such as NCN’s and Lessons Learned

  • Plan, implement and report on Project internal audits

  • Carry out internal audit as and when requested against all three standards, 9001, 14001 and 18001

  • Carry out Supplier audits.

  • Witness FAT, SAT tests, in line with I&TP requirements

  • Develop the welding capability at Thatcham to enable certification by LRQA for BS 3834 and BS EN 1090 CE marking for structural Steelwork.

  • Carry out all on site visual welding inspection, provide in house NDE/ NDT capability for all welded items.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure understanding and application of responsibilities with regard to the Company’s Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards

  • Ensuring provision of project specific QC strategy

  • To develop and maintain all welding managed or carried out from the Thatcham facility

  • Working with the Project Team to ensure adequate Quality Function expertise is available at the appropriate project delivery point (e.g. supply chain management, construction, commissioning, handover).

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Professional / academic qualification associated with Quality management, Construction M&E welding/heavy fabrication

  • Membership of an appropriate Quality professional body (CQI preferred)

  • Auditor trained (IRCA Lead preferred)

  • CSWIP level 2 as a minimum

  • Must be a British national

  • Must not hold dual nationality

  • Be willing to work on a Nuclear licenced site

  • Have no issues with working at AWE

  • Be willing to apply or already have DV clearance

Desirable:

  • Effective oral/written presentation skills

  • Ability to prioritise task execution in the context of tight programme constraints

  • Ability to analyse situations objectively

  • Good negotiating and conflict resolution skills
