As a Meter Reader (Team Lead), you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services – uninterrupted. Based in The Villages, FL, you will lead a diverse team of meter readers during the course of daily water meter reading and recording of consumption using client issued reading equipment. Familiarity with work order software, meter reading equipment, and company software for completion of various work orders, timesheets, etc. is required. Under minimal direction, the team lead will oversee the meter reading services team and the recording of utility billing data for the client. The selected candidate, performing in a team leader capacity, is responsible for coordinating a variety of meter services and programs, including but not limited to daily route assignments, assignment of meter rereads/audits, and delivery of read data to the client. The main objective is to ensure correct and timely billing of metered services through accurate and efficient meter readings and recordings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and monitors all meter services to ensure the accomplishment of departmental schedules, goals and objectives; performs upload and download of meter readings from handheld electronic devices to system software.

  • When necessary, reads water meters on an assigned route and records readings via client provided equipment.

  • When necessary, visually checks to see that meters are functioning properly and reports defective meters.

  • Reports meter issues or problems promptly to the client.

  • Works with the Operations Director to build the rapidly expanding GIS database of commercial odd meters to further gain efficiencies within meter reading team.

  • Maintains and executes the hydrant painting program during non-reading times of the business month.

  • When necessary, performs other related work as directed, such as painting, valve turning, water line flushing, water sample collection or any other project need as directed by management.

  • Creates meter reading schedule and adjusts the same for environmental considerations or employee conditions (limited staff). and conducts operational and safety meetings.

  • Coordinates, trains, assigns, and reviews the work of Meter Readers.

  • Examine resumes and identify prospects for the interview phase of the hiring process.

  • Conducts interviews with prospective employees either individually or as the leader of an interview committee.

  • Recommends disciplinary action when warranted and provides follow-up mentoring.

  • Assists other departments as necessary; performs various research and reporting duties as directed by management.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Possess a valid driver's license

  • Ability to stay cool under pressure.

  • Ability to work with others and delegate work to the team to stay effective

  • Ability to work with billing department client and stay professional in all communication to the client

  • The ability to work within local weather conditions

  • The ability to walk long distances, perform repetitive motions including, sitting, standing, stooping, and lifting

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • 2 years of meter reading experience

  • Knowledge of the geography of street locations of The Villages

  • Ability to write legibly

  • Able to make routine mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately

  • Able to deal tactfully and courteously with the public

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and mobile phone applications

The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
