Jacobs Senior Conveyance and Tunneling Project Manager - Canada in Toronto, Ontario

As a Senior Project Manager, you will have the chance to lead and manage the project team through all phases of project planning, execution (design and construction), and closeout, consistent with established project delivery processes to meet the scope, schedule, budget and other specified requirements stated in the contract. This means completing the scope of work to the satisfaction of the client, while simultaneously ensuring that HS&E, quality, financial, risk management; business and policy expectations are met, schedule and cost variances are identified, and recommendations for corrective action are developed and implemented; also, to assist and/or lead the investigation and review of technologies, equipment, and decision analysis. Working with other members of the team, you’ll lead project teams and communication between diverse design disciplines; developing, and coordinating effective quality management processes for each project, oversee sophisticated and complicated designs and calculations in accordance with established department standards and software, prepare and /or supervise engineering studies, reports, calculations, drawings and cost estimates.

During your time with us, you will lead and participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and vendor bid evaluations, establish long-term client relationships and support business development activities, playing a strong role in the business development activities leading to the award of the contract. This includes client relationship development, project-specific positioning activities, proposal preparation (generation of scope, budget and schedules), oral presentation, and contract negotiation consistent with established business development processes, as well as direct communication with client PMs and technical teams on technical design topics, project schedule, project scope, and budget.

Role can be located in any Canadian office location - Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Kitchener, or Toronto.

  • Master’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Holds (or eligible for) Professional Engineers Ontario membership.

  • Minimum of 15 years of directly applicable experience in working with municipal clients in engineering (technical lead and/or design manager) or project management roles.

  • Proven experience managing the technical, contractual and financial risks associated with large and complex linear infrastructure projects, including large diameter watermains and sewers.

  • Significant experience with tunneling and micro tunneling projects during design and/or construction phases, includingpreparation of linear infrastructure contract documents including those for tunneling and the application of risk management strategies (including contract expertise with Geotechnical Baseline Reports)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical writing.

  • Proven experience in managing project teams on small, medium and large consulting projects.

  • Excellence in developing and implementing strategies for engagement and communications with the public, councilors and 3rdparty stakeholders including numerous regulatory and utility agencies for linear infrastructure projects in densely populated urban environment.

  • Demonstrated understanding construction sequencing, staging and approaches to minimize impacts on adjacent properties and people.

  • Expertise and skill applying PMP/PMBOK approaches to project management:

o Preparing a comprehensive and tailored Project Management Plan (PMP)

o EV reporting including monitoring resource hours against plan

o Developing and reporting on KPIs and managing risk with a Risk Register

o Planning to and demonstrating adherence to the engineering services contract requirements (they want to defend against an audit)

  • Proven track record of successful business development, and of fostering client relationships.

  • Adept at interpersonal relationship building, conflict resolution, and leading diverse teams.
