We are looking for a highly motivated and personable individual to help lead and expand our technical advisory services in Ontario. As a Telecommunications Lead within Technical Advisory Services, you will be responsible for leading, undertaking and/or coordinating the delivery of advisory services from design/construction through to commissioning. You will liaise with our local and global technical, engineering and design resources.

The current opening is for a leading role on the Technical Assistance Team, supporting the implementation of high-speed internet across Ontario with an emphasis on connecting unserved and underserved rural communities. The role will be based out of our Toronto office, with the potential for flexible work from home, and some presence in our client’s office in downtown Toronto. As Jacob’s Technical Advisory Services department continues to grow, future opportunities on linear infrastructure projects such as highways and rail may become available.

In this role you will:

  • Assist the Project Manager by leading the analysis of technical and/or commercial documentation to support project implementation, permitting, and the timely resolution of disputes as required. Manage and coordinate a team to complete project deliverables.

  • Advise the client on technical and/or commercial matters throughout procurement and implementation of major capital projects up to multi-million to billion dollars in value.

  • Lead, coordinate, or consult directly with applicable stakeholders on project issues, such as internet service providers, contractors, local distribution companies, municipalities, and the client.

  • Identify risks and issues, provide strategic advice in project implementation.

  • Lead and coordinate activities and deliverables in the design and construction phase, leading to project completion.

  • Monitor project design execution and progress, staff resource, schedule, scope, and budget.

  • Provide consistency and efficiencies in project delivery including scope, schedule, budget and other specified requirements stated in the contract.

  • Serve as a leader and mentor to junior staff by providing direction and answering questions and concerns.

  • Lead and coordinate the development of procurement documents, including technical requirements or specifications.

  • Develop relationships and help to identify new and upcoming opportunities.

  • Work with the sales team in client strategy, production and pricing of proposals.

  • Work across multiple asset classes, including but not limited to broadband, energy, transportation, or social infrastructure etc.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or business administration with substantial related career experience.

  • 10 years of experience in design, procurement, and/or construction oversight of major capital projects in Ontario.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience preparing presentations, briefing material, memos, and technical reports.

  • Experience with working with stakeholders and clients including but not limited to internet service providers, utilities, municipalities, Provincial/Municipal/Federal government departments/ministries or crown corporations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario

  • Experience with Preliminary/Reference Concept Design and/or Detail Design assignments.

  • Experience developing and monitoring delivery budgets on complex multi-phase capital projects.

  • Experience with design build, public-private-partnerships, or other alternative delivery or collaborative delivery models.
