As a planner you’ll join our collaborative team in Tucker, Georgia and be a highly motivated and detail oriented professional. You'll also:

• Assist the public with questions regarding zoning regulations, development projects, and other inquiries

• Review building permits, sign permits, zoning verification letters, plats, and land development permits

• Conduct zoning reviews for Occupational Tax Certificates

• Provide documents for Open Records Requests

• Research, evaluate, and process variance, rezoning, special land use permit, and comprehensive plan amendment applications

• Attend and present at monthly meetings for the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission

• Ensure legal requirements are met per the Zoning Procedures Act

• Assist in research and drafting of new ordinances and text amendments

• Track issues that have an impact on the goals of the department

• Assist with studies, master plans, and other special projects

• Work on community work program items

• Perform other duties as assigned, including cross training with other departments to cover absences, equalize peak work periods, or balance the workload.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in City Planning, Public Administration, or related field

  • Two (2) years of planning experience; or High School equivalent and a minimum of four (4) years of planning experience in lieu of the degree

  • Experience with modern principles and terms used in general and applied planning, development regulations, land use theory, and comprehensive planning and zoning requirements

  • Experience with methods and techniques for research and technical report preparation

  • Experience with presentations to groups communicating information related to zoning regulations and development

  • Must possess strong interpersonal relationship skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of architecture and landscaping design; building codes; permitting and entitlement processes

  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, GIS, and permitting software

  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public

  • Problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined practical problems

  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed
