Jacobs Technology, Inc., a global engineering services company headquartered in Tullahoma, Tennessee, will offer a Controls Engineering internship opportunity. The opportunity will commence in the summer term of 2021 and will be awarded to an outstanding student who is majoring in electrical engineering from an accredited university.

Intern Position:

One Jacobs Technology Scholar will be selected for our office location in Tullahoma, TN . The student will work under the supervision of a technical manager and mentor in the Controls and Electrical Engineering Section. This section performs engineering design and development of control systems and related HMIs for complex testing facilities in the automotive, aerospace, and other industries.

Intern students will work 40-hour work weeks for approximately 10 weeks during the months of June through August (negotiable). Students will work on project teams under the direction of a manager with the assistance of a mentor, are required to attend planned activities, and must make an end-of-assignment presentation to other co-ops and Jacobs’ staff.

Duties may include:

  • Develop hardware assembly and wiring designs for control or data acquisition systems

  • Develop control system software, including PLC and HMI

  • Support hardware assembly and fabrication of designed systems

Note: Specific experience in duties listed above is not a prerequisite as these skills will be developed through specific project assignments and on-the-job training.

Note: It is the responsibility of the intern to make their own travel and housing arrangements during the internship.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Required Qualifications:

Degree Program: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering

Current status: Upcoming junior or above

Cumulative GPA: 3.0 or higher

Coursework: Circuits, Electricity & Magnetism

Outside activities: At least one extra-curricular activity

  • Other: US Citizenship required

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Team-oriented

  • Good problem-solving skills

  • Highly self-motivated

  • Desired Qualifications:

Cumulative GPA: 3.5 or higher

Coursework: Signals

Control System Theory

Experience: Previous Engineering Internship or General Work History

Outside activities: Multiple extra-curricular activities –to include one engineering-related
