Structural Engineer IV
JobPurpose : Design of structuralsystems for automotive, aerospace, and other advanced technical facilities.
Summary: The Jacobs Technology, Engineering andProjects Group, provides technical and managerial leadership in the design,construction, and commissioning of advanced test systems and facilities for avariety of clients around the world. Our clients are in the automotive,aerospace, aero-propulsion, and other advanced technology markets and representboth the private and government segments.
Jacobs is seeking a Structural Engineer with approx.10 to 15 years of experience in the design of complex structures. Thesuccessful candidate will work in a project team environment to develop customdesigns to satisfy client requirements. Typical projects include wind tunnelsand support equipment, rocket and jet engine test stands, automotive testcells, and other unique structural systems.
Provide a complete design solution from concept to final design and construction.
Apply design loading to structures utilizing applicable building codes and design codes.
Design and analyze structures to meet project specific and code requirements utilizing both hand and finite element analysis (STAAD and/or ANSYS preferred).
Develop engineering design calculation packages, which may include static, dynamic, blast, vibration, and thermal stresses, utilizing both hand analysis and finite element analysis. Evaluate life of structural components for low and high cycle fatigue.
Oversee detailed design and development of 3D models and 2D drawings.
Develop construction bid packages which typically include calculations, specifications, and drawings.
Perform post design activities which may include review of subcontractor submittals, RFI’s, and shop drawings. Perform site inspections at construction sites to ensure facility is construction to contract documents.
Provide leadership for junior engineers and drafter/designers.
Coordinate and communicate design solutions with clients and other engineering disciplines – including presentations, design review meetings, and training.
Assist with project planning, cost estimating, proposals, project management, and marketing.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team to meet project budgets and schedules.
Minimum of a BS degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering field
Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience, but 10-15 years of experience preferred in the design and analysis of special structures
PE license preferred
Must be proficient in finite element modeling (STAAD and/or ANSYS software or equivalent)
Must be proficient in the use of IBC Code, AISC Steel Code, ACI Code, and ASCE Minimum Design Loads
Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Div 1 & 2 is highly desirable
Experience with dynamic loading and blast loading is highly desirable
Demonstrated leadership leadership ability. Able to lead a small team of structural engineers and drafters on the structural design of small and large projects
Ability to do Project Management or Marketing on small projects is a plus
Must have strong time management skills
Must be a US Citizen
