Jacobs Geotechnical Engineer in Virginia Beach, Virginia
Jacobs has a great opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join and help grow our Herndon VA office and work with our geotechnical and tunneling practice consisting of close to 150 geotechnical engineers in 20 offices in North America. As our Geotechnical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to follow projects from the subsurface investigation and conceptual phase through the construction phase, working on traditional design-bid-build as well as design-build projects. When you join Jacobs, you’ll participate in field assignments that will include observation of explorations (soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing), geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring and inspection of the construction of geotechnical structures (earth retaining structures, deep foundations, dams, tunnels, and shallow foundations). This role will provide the opportunity to travel to and work in locations both within the USA and around the world. Under supervision, you’ll design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, embankments, and cut slopes as well as perform liquefaction potential analyses. Other responsibilities for this role include:
• Analyzing laboratory and field testing results and select geotechnical design parameters.
• Preparing and review technical reports, data reports, and baseline reports.
• Familiarity with computer programs including Settle3D, Slide, FB DEEP, LPILE, Shaft, FB-MultiPier, DeepXcav, GRLWeap, Plaxis, and MathCAD to complete engineering analysis and prepare design calculations.
• Preparing design drawings and construction specifications, and review construction submittals for compliance with contract requirements and design assumptions.
• Working in collaborative multi-disciplinary teams across North America and the world.
• Sharing technical knowledge across geographical boundaries to foster innovative project solutions.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering
• Previous professional experience in Geotechnical Engineering to include site characterization, deep foundation and earth retaining structure design, and in-situ stabilization
• Strong ability to demonstrate a strong technical knowledge of the principles of soil mechanics, and geotechnical design, and be able to effectively work with a team of other engineers
• Ability and desire to work in an office setting and travel when needed
