Your Impact:

This position is at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility at Wallops Island, Virginia on the Eastern Shore. The position supports the Facility Operations and Maintenance Services (FOMS) Task Order.

Responsibilities:

Primary duty is ensuring your personal safety, the safety of co-workers and customers. Knowledgeable of local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations to safely excavate and move objects. Must have a valid CDL license. Must be able to obtain certification to operate various types of construction equipment to include forklifts, bulldozers, backhoes, dump trucks, cargo trucks, and hydraulic truck cranes, and vehicles of various sizes.

Equipment Operator will perform a variety of duties.

  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures

  • Operated dozers, backhoes, basket trucks

  • Tractor trailers and low-boy trailers as needed to move equipment to job sites

  • Operating Genie lifts and Bobcats plus all attachments

  • Operating excavator, snow removal plows, sweeper, and forklifts of all kinds

  • Skilled in the operating and maintenance of hand-held power tools

  • Light/medium/heavy duty equipment used for highway maintenance and repair

  • Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner

  • Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.

  • Observe distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow and indicate low spots for workers to add material.

  • Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

U.S. citizenship required. Valid CDL license is required. Six years’ experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, school, or trade program. Knowledgeable of local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations to safely move objects. Equipment Operators will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Jacobs provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.

Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to coordinate your actions with those of other workers on busy construction sites. Also, must have good troubleshooting skills to be able to detect and fix equipment operating problems.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office environment. (90%)

Travel between facilities and test sites is required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation. (10%)

Equipment and Machines:

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.) (50%)

Safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) (50%)

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.

Attendance:

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)

Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (<20%) Travel required («5%)

Other Essential Functions:

U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. A valid driver’s license is required.
