About the role

Jacobs are recruiting a Level 6 NDT Apprentice to work within the Materials Inspection Development Team and Inspection Validation Centre. Both these organisations are based on the Birchwood site near Warrington and undertake NDT development and Inspection Qualification activities in support of a range of industries.

The role offers a structured training program where the candidate will obtain a mixture of practical and theoretical training in a range of NDT methods. This training will be supported by significant periods of in-house experience in a range of high profile development and NDT qualification activities. During the training period the candidate will work towards a BSc Degree in NDT and will obtain PCN certification in a suite of NDT methods. The degree is delivered by remote learning from the University of Northampton.

The academic and practical training will be supported by industrial experience working in the Jacobs offices and experimental facilities. This work will support a variety of projects aimed at developing and verifying NDT applications for our customers.

  • Your contribution will ensure that Jacobs continue to meet customer requirements to support timely completion of ongoing projects whilst developing your knowledge and understanding of advanced NDT.

  • Reporting to Senior NDT Engineers.

  • Your technical knowledge, questioning attitude, delivery and customer focus will support your success in the role.

  • The role will provide exposure and personal development to the range of technical challenges encountered in the application of NDT in the nuclear industry.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 3 A Levels in including mathematics, English and a science subject.

  • Ability to learn new skills both in terms of theoretical understanding and practical implementation.

  • Ability to manage own time in order to combine learning requirements and project delivery needs.

  • A strong sense of team spirit, able to learn from and support colleagues to meet delivery objectives.

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain Baseline security clearance (BPSS).

  • Energy, enthusiasm and good communication skills.

  • A well-mannered and professional individual with a positive ‘can do’ attitude. Proactive in nature who takes pride in ‘getting things done’ to a high standard.

  • Able to demonstrate a keen interest in a career in engineering within the engineering & construction environment
