About the Opportunity:
Our Specialist Consultancy and Laboratory Solutions business is looking for a Principal Consultant Radiochemistry who can apply their skills and experience in order to support our clients in the nuclear industry and beyond.
Our multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and technicians provide client-focused solutions to all stages of the nuclear lifecycle. From desk-based consultancy, to hands on laboratory analysis and method development, to on-site work, we provide innovative solutions to solve our clients’ most complex challenges.
In this role, you will be involved with a variety of different work streams from bidding for new work, consultancy, technical project management, stakeholder management and you will be working alongside a team of scientists, project managers and consultants to deliver chemical and radiochemical analysis projects to our customers.
Based in Birchwood, Warrington, and acting as a key technical member of staff, the role is a hands-on role which requires knowledge of radiochemistry sample preparation, scintillation counting, radiochemistry techniques and analysis, method development and validation, as well as being an authorised signatory of analytical reports.
Key Responsibilities will include:
Providing in depth technical responses to tenders and enquiries, and be involved with bidding for new work.
Working with the laboratory, facilitate delivery and technical aspects of assigned radiochemistry/chemistry projects.
Engaging with clients, building effective relationships and developing a good understanding of their needs.
Identifying, implementing and complying with applicable safety, environmental and quality standards, client procedures and policies, and other relevant legislative and regulatory requirements such is ISO17025.
Using technical knowledge in radiochemical analysis to interpret experimental data, compile high-quality technical reports and discussion/presentation of results to customers.
Identification and development of opportunities to grow the business both within Jacobs and also externally.
Support in mentoring of junior members of the team to help develop experts of the future.
Support the development of new techniques/experimental designs and providing technical guidance on complex projects.
The opportunity to support and lead multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists to deliver large cross-business projects.
Support investigation into out of expectation projects
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Post-graduate qualification in radiochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering or other relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
Experience working within a UKAS accredited laboratory.
Hands on experience with wet radiochemistry preparation methods and approaches.
Experience in applying test results to client requirements and producing technical reports.
Good communication skills to enable you to work as part of a team, and the ability to discuss tasks with others from different technical disciplines.
Willingness to work in clean conditions in a controlled radioactive laboratory.
Experience or understanding of the nuclear industry would be beneficial.
