About the opportunity:

Jacobs Critical Missions International is looking for enthusiast engineers to work on exciting opportunities in challenging environments within our Technology and Cyber Solutions business.

You will be working in innovative projects for critical applications. In nuclear decommissioning we are developing robotics and computer vision technology to be deployed to site, assisting reconnaissance with holistic mapping and analysis for different industries, supporting projects for nuclear fusion for ITER in France or developing tools for Fukushima in Japan.

Key Responsibilities include:

• The creative use of technologies and development of software solutions to a range of robotic challenges to satisfy end user requirements.

• Work on the full lifecycle of applications from design to maintenance.

• Undertaking small and large-scale trials, involving simulations and robotics hardware and test rig equipment.

• Keep up to date with related state of the art.

• Work self-guided but also together with colleagues and collaboration partners. Liaison with other associated departments/organisations both within and outside Jacobs.

• Support implementation of solutions at site where required, both within the UK and overseas.

• Presentation of progress and results in formal document formats and presentations to colleagues and project stakeholders.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Essential:

• Candidates with varying levels of experience are desired and will be considered: Degree, Postgraduate degree or HNC/ HND in Robotics, Computer Science or Mechatronics; alternatively experience and training of equivalent standard would be considered.

• Passionate about robotics, computer vision, human robot interaction and/or related technologies.

• Comfortable programming in a pre-compiled language (e.g. C++, C#) and a scripting language (e.g. Python, JavaScript).

• Autonomous and proactive, with energy and enthusiasm.

• Good communication skills and be able to prepare clear and concise written technical reports.

Desirable:

• Thorough background in robotics and/or computer vision, including hands on experience with robotics frameworks (e.g. ROS, OROCOS).

• Experience with computer vision applications using libraries (e.g. OpenCV, PCL) and their integration with perception sensors such as cameras or Lidar, including their calibration.

• Knowledge of Human Robot Interaction and/or experience with User Interface/Experience development.

• Experience using simulation or game engines for integration or testing (e.g. Gazebo, Unreal).

• Knowledge of Pose Estimation, SLAM and AI theory.

• Experience with web technologies (e.g. NodeJS, React)

• Experience in testing, verification, and validation.
