About the Opportunity

The selected candidate will work within the nuclear sector and the first project they will be involved in is required to design a new process for the safe removal and dispatch of Special Nuclear Material (SNM) packages.

  • In particular you will develop the design for the retrieval, processing, storage and transport of alpha emitting materials, from concept through to detailed design.

  • You will provide engineering input including the application of best practices, such as Learning From Experience (LFE); consideration of As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP), nuclear accountancy, permanent/ temporary containment/ ventilation systems and contamination control approaches.

  • Production of technical documents, specifications, risk assessments and calculations to BS EN 1300

  • The candidate will manage a small team of designers with responsibility for peer review/ checking of reports, drawings (proposal & detail drawings), calculations

  • Efficient liaison with stake-holders and other engineering disciplines

  • Site visits

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering Degree

  • Chartered Engineer Status

  • +10 years of experience gained within a highly regulated industry

  • Ability to liaise with stakeholders across a wide range of specialist areas and at all levels

  • Knowledge of safety Case Development Principles

  • Experience of working on Alpha Plants.

  • Experience with Technology Readiness Level assessments
