As a vital member of our Design/Build Rail/Transit team as a Design Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to lead in the creation of construction package developments, work with multiple disciplined teams on projects that are full life cycle of concept through completion, provide utility coordination, ensure alignments are engineered correctly, and so much more! When you join us as a Design/Build Design Manager, you’ll be responsible for the following:
• Demonstrates extensive expertise and serves as an expert on rail/transit design-build projects
• Interprets internal and external business issues and recommends best practices;
• Solves complex problems and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions;
• Identifies applications of functional knowledge and existing methodologies to complex problems;
• Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations;
• Leads functional teams or projects and serves as a best practice or quality resource
• Priorities timely delivery while maintaining Quality and Safety standards
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• Substantial progressive experience with large Rail/Transit design projects and minimum of 5 years’ experience with design build transportation projects
• Professional Engineer (PE) License in VA/DC/MD, or the ability to obtain within 6 months
• Previous leadership experience and comfortable mentoring junior and mid-level staff
• Substantial years of demonstrated professional experience on rail and transit projects
• Previous experience in a client facing role and the ability to serve as a liaison between Jacobs and the client
• Professional expertise with MicroStation and/or InRail or AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Strong user of Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project desired).
• Knowledge of AREMA and local railroad criteria
• Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong focus on client and contractor service
• Ability to assemble plan sets meeting client and contractor expectations
• Strong business acumen and conflict resolution skills
• Strong understanding of project management concepts including planning and budgeting, fee development,
writing scopes of work, creating work breakdown structures and project delivery schedules for design and related services
Ideally, you’ll also have:
• Master of Business Administration (MBA)
• DBIA Certification
• Previous experience working with local agencies, including but not limited to WMATA, AMTRAK, MTA, Counties in VA/DC/MD
• Experience in Progressive Design/Build, CMAR or P3 projects
• Working experience with contractors
