The Rail and Geotechnical Business unit consistsof over 875 people, with people located in virtually every office within theUK. The rail part of the business includes Network Rail, TfL and HS2 amongstits biggest clients, with the geotechnical business serving virtually everyoperating unit within BIAF as well as cross line of activities into the nuclearand mining sectors.

Reporting to Jacobs Discipline Lead, Survey (Rail) Assistant Survey Manager (Rail) will be capable ofundertaking and leading teams who undertake Topographic Survey required toenable for Feasibility, Concept, Detailed and Construction phases of railway multi-disciplinarydesign projects.

The Assistant Survey Manager (Rail) will be responsible for planning, organising survey work, undertakingsurveys and post survey data processing, originating, checking and approving surveyreports produced by others.

In addition, the Assistant Survey Manager (Rail) will berequired to produce, check and approve railway project survey strategy reportsand associated documentation, and to represent the Discipline Lead at designdevelopment and review meetings and workshops. The role will also involve producinghealth & safety paperwork and performing occasional due-diligence auditsensuring quality and safety surveys are delivered. Flexibility will be requiredwith travel and working arrangements.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A qualification in Surveying, Civil Engineering or equivalent career experience (minimum of 5 years work experience)

  • Leadership of survey teams

  • Effective communication, negotiation, and presentation skills

  • Ability to prioritise and plan work safely and effectively with the coordination of track access in collaboration with the client and subcontractors.

  • Good understanding of survey requirements multi-discipline railway design and construction projects with sound knowledge of Network Rail Survey standard 3100 and associated modules.

  • Proficient in using GNSS, Total Stations. Laser Scanner and levelling equipment (Trimble/Leica) and provide technical support both on site and within the office.

  • Proficient in Railway Surveying practices (Topographical Surveys. GNSS Networks, Levelling, Traversing, Height & Stagger, Gauging, Drainage, Platform Gauging, Track Monitoring)

  • Capable of data processing, interpretation and the ability to produce technical reports.

  • Proficient in the use of Microstation and AutoCAD

  • Full clean driving licence

Desirable:

  • Professional membership of a relevant Professional Engineering Organisationor progressing towards Professional membership.

  • Experience with SCC and Snakegrid

  • PTS, COSS or similar

  • BIM knowledge
